Kisspeptin-10 is a decapeptide — a chain of ten amino acids — with the sequence Tyr-Asn-Trp-Asn-Ser-Phe-Gly-Leu-Arg-Phe-NH₂. It is the shortest bioactive fragment of the larger kisspeptin-54 protein, which is encoded by the KISS1 gene. The gene was first identified in 1996 at Pennsylvania State University, originally in the context of cancer research. Kisspeptin-10 has the molecular formula C₆₃H₈₃N₁₇O₁₄, a molecular weight of 1302.45 g/mol, and CAS number 374675-21-5.

The C-terminal amide group (-NH₂) on the final phenylalanine residue is a defining structural feature of the peptide, distinguishing it from truncated variants lacking this modification.
